Crane Fluid Systems (www.cranefs.com) - a leading brand of Crane Building Services & Utilities (www.cranebsu.com) - has launched a range of Differential Pressure Control Valves (DPCVs) to showcase at this year’s M&E exhibition at Olympia in October.
Part of the ProBalance range of commissioning valves, the DPCV is compact and modern in design and is available for both flow (DPAF951) and return (DPAR951) configurations in sizes DN15 to DN50. The DPCV operates across a temperature range of -10 to 100˚C and is PN16 rated.
The stem position is controlled by the differential pressure acting across the diaphragm.
The stem closes on rising differential pressure and opens on falling differential pressure. The valve will continue to move in this way until equilibrium of pressure is achieved.
The DPCV can be set on installation to a maximum differential pressure limit of 20 to 100 kPa. Under dynamic balancing conditions, the valve can then be adjusted easily on commissioning as conditions dictate. This ensures that differential pressure cannot exceed the set control limit thus maintaining the control authority of the two port control valve.
Installing DPCVs into a system brings numerous benefits – they control the differential pressure and therefore flow rate, and also help reduce pump energy consumption, when using a variable system. In fact, BSRIA figures suggest that DPCVs help reduce the pump energy consumption of a typical heating system by 60-70%. In addition, the risk of noise is lower and a consistent circuit performance is maintained.
A system which contains a DPCV remains balanced independent of any changes in other areas of the circuit, allowing commissioning to be carried out in sections. This means the entire system does not need to be commissioned at the same time which greatly simplifies the balancing and commissioning procedure.
An impulse tube is supplied with the DPCV to link and transport pressure between flow and return pipework. It plays an essential role in allowing the DPCV to open and close depending on system conditions.
When paired with the Crane (DP931) companion valve, the DPCV can be used to set and maintain a flow rate. By using the DP931 Fixed Orifice Double Regulating Valve to measure, the DPCV can be adjusted to set the required design flow rate. Any variations in other areas of the system will therefore not impact on the flow rate to the sub-circuit.
The new DPCV is quick and easy to install, has a long life expectancy and is designed to require little or no maintenance.

Crane Fluid Systems has launched a new range of DZR brass ball valves for water, heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems. The newly developed Crane D171A DZR ball valve series is WRAS approved and can be used over a temperature range of -10 to 120¢ªC. The range will cover eight threaded sizes from 1/4 to 2" and six compression sizes from 15 to 54 mm.
A multi-terminal, central location commissioning system for maximum convenience and minimal disruption.
Crane CommPac provides one easy access point for commissioning and maintenance of multiple heating/chilled water terminal units.
On large projects, significant time and cost can be eliminated by enabling commissionong at convenient locations. Ends of corridoes, or accessible cupboads can be used, which would also eliminate disruption to occupiers during maintenance works.
The CommPac is an exceptionally efficient, practical and versatile system: -
- Depending on flow rates, up to six terminals can be served from a single CommPac unit.
- All units are custom built to suit site specitication
- All site connections can be made without the need to access the internal components.
- CommPac is suitable for variable flow or constant flow systems.
- All connections are BSPT female, enabling standard pipe or specialist adaptors to be used.
- Fan coil units can be flushed, vented and balanced without the time-consuming ';ooping out' procedure. This can be carried out by one commissioning engineer instead of a team.
- A single strainer serves all curcuits, eliminating the need for individual strainers.
- All systems can be flushed through the unique Dominator 'H' body.
- The single DPCV maintains contant differential pressure between manifolds.
Thermostatic Mixing Valves blend hot water (stored at temperatures high enough to kill bacteria) with cold, to ensure constant, safe outlet temperatures preventing scalding. Predominantly used in the healthcare industry, Termostatic Mixing Valves are installed in situations where there is a high risk of scalding - the very old, the very young and those of a physical and/or mental disability - hospitals, care homes, schools etc. Every owner of healthcare premises, or registered home has a Duty of Care and has to demonstrate necessary steps taken to protect patients, staff and visitors against injury of scalding.
Both MultiTherm and EtaTherm valves offer self-balancing, thermostatically controlled regulation of flow and thermal disinfection assisting with protection against legionella. MultiTherm valves are used where circuits are greater than 10 metres in length and EtaTherm valves are used when curcuits and less than 10 metres in length. Crane MultiTherm is a multifunction unit that combines the necessary valves, thermometers, drain and attachments into one compact unit for the control of water circulation systems. The flow volume thermally controls fine regulation, blocking and draining and displays or relays fluid themperature. MultiTherm operates in temperatures from 50 to 65 degs C and is designed to switch off regulation functions when hot water temperatures are increads to about 70 degs C and automatically switch over to the disinfection setting.
MultiTee is a temperature monitoring pocket and thermometer providing system temperature validation.
- Used in domestic HWS systems to assist with protection against legionella
- Thermostatically controlled regulation of the volume flow - self balancing
- Incorporates a settable temperature sensing cartridge, factory pre-set at a standard 57 degs C which can be replaced without valve removal
- Assists with disinfection at temperatures aboue 70 deg. C by increasing the flow and therefore does not need adjustment or resetting
- valve opens automatically during disinfection
- Monitors the temperature by thermometer or BMS sensor
- Has an accuracy of +/- 1 degs C
- Savings in energy
- Lower commissioning time hence lower cost
- Easily verifiable temperatures
- WRAS approved.
The range includes Thermostatic, Wheelhead and Lockshield valves available in 1/2" and 3/4" BSP sizes, each supplied complete with complimentary comression end adaptors. The chrome plated brass va;ves are complemented by a range of accessories including Remote Sensors and Transmitters; and Tamperproof TRV locks. Crane Radiator vavles and TRV controls are approved to standards UNI EN 215 and superseed the Crane Crusader range.
The new range offers interchange-ability of the TRV head and the Wheelhead. The revolutionary body design enables both the TRV head and the Wheelhead to be connected directly to a common valve body without the need for adaptors. This design breakthrough reduces the cost of stock holding and increases the versatility of the range.
